As you can see, I haven’t included any folding multi-tool can rocket stoves with built-in USB chargers. As a chef, and as a dad with a strong drive to keep my kids fed no matter what, the ones above are what I’ve picked to make sure I can do my job regardless of what’s going on in the world around me.

Redundancy and diversity are key here. Make sure you have at least three different cooking options on hand for emergencies.

Whatever technology and tools you choose to use, make sure you put them to through their paces many times, ahead of time. I recommend using your off-grid cooking options as often as possible when making the recipes in this book, just to iron the hiccups out of the system ahead of hard times.
