You need leverage

The ramifications of having no food, or plenty of it, are each magnified exponentially in a crisis. An empty belly can seriously cloud your judgement, whereas a full stomach and a plan to eat tomorrow frees up your time and energy for tackling other problems.

A crisis is, almost by definition, stressful. Keeping a clear head in an emergency is twice as hard on an empty stomach. And it’s much, much worse when those you love are going hungry.

As any military commander who has ever starved out an enemy knows, food is power. And for you, food security is leverage.
